West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has instructed the police and Railway Protection Force (RPF) to send arrested illegal infiltrators from other countries directly to the nearest Border Security Force (BSF) outposts instead of taking them to court. This new directive came into effect immediately on Wednesday. Adhikari, in a meeting with police and RPF officials on Thursday, emphasized the need to bypass the court system and transport the infiltrators to BSF Border Outposts.
Under this new protocol, illegal infiltrators apprehended at locations like Howrah station will skip court appearances and be promptly transferred to BSF BoPs in Benapole-Petrapole or Basirhat. Adhikari specified that individuals eligible for citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) would not be subject to this streamlined process. The Chief Minister also announced plans for regular updates on the number of infiltrators sent to BSF outposts.
Adhikari’s directive aligns with the BJP’s anti-infiltration stance, surpassing their “detect-delete-deport” policy. The state government has initiated the transfer of land to the BSF for erecting fencing along unfenced India-Bangladesh border areas to curb illegal immigration. With the focus now shifting to deportation, the state police and RPF will work towards implementing the Chief Minister’s orders.
