The West Bengal government declared a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each and a job opportunity for a family member of five workers who were electrocuted in Cooch Behar district’s Dinhata area. North Bengal Development Minister Udayan Guha, along with other officials, met the bereaved families to convey the government’s support and make the announcement. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee assured Rs 2 lakh compensation and a job for one family member of each deceased worker.
The tragic incident took place at a stone crushing factory in the Gadkura area of Dinhata Village II Gram Panchayat. The workers, while moving a welding machine, accidentally came into contact with an 11,000-volt high-tension wire, resulting in the immediate death of five workers. The deceased individuals were identified as Mukul Barman, Raju Sen, Mithun Pal, Suman Barman, and Sanjay Barman, all residents of different areas in Dinhata.
In addition to the fatalities, three other workers sustained severe injuries and were rushed to Dinhata Subdivision Hospital. Their condition is reported to be critical, as confirmed by the police authorities.
