The West Bengal government has decided to remove the ‘Z-plus’ security cover provided to Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee. This decision means that the additional security personnel and special pilot car facility allotted to Abhishek Banerjee will no longer be in effect.
Abhishek Banerjee had been under ‘Z-plus’ security cover for over a decade, but his security was reduced after the recent change of government in West Bengal post the Assembly polls. The new state government has now opted to completely withdraw his ‘Z-plus’ security cover.
An administrative directive concerning this decision was issued on Monday afternoon. Not only is Abhishek Banerjee’s additional security force being withdrawn, but the pilot car facility he had been receiving for years is also being taken away.
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari conducted various meetings at Nabanna on Monday, including an administrative review meeting and discussions with District Magistrates and senior police officers. The security cover of politicians was reportedly a topic of discussion during these meetings.
