West Bengal’s Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose finally showed up at the Enforcement Directorate’s Salt Lake office in Kolkata after avoiding previous summons in connection to a municipal recruitment case. The ED had issued notices to Bose before the state’s recent two-phase Assembly election, but he had cited campaign commitments for his non-attendance.
Despite seeking relief from the Calcutta High Court to avoid appearing for questioning, the court granted him temporary reprieve until after the elections. Following the court’s directive, Bose, accompanied by his legal counsel, appeared at the ED office as mandated.
While at the office, Bose and his counsel declined to respond to media queries. Additionally, State Food & Supplies Minister Rathin Ghosh was also summoned by the ED for questioning in the same recruitment case involving municipalities.
In previous instances, the ED had interrogated Ghosh in October 2023 regarding municipal recruitment corruption and had conducted searches at his residence. Similar actions were taken against Bose in January 2024 and October 2025, including raids at his premises and those of his associates.
Both Bose and Ghosh, contesting for re-election, participated in the recent Assembly polls from Bidhannagar and Madhyamgram constituencies, respectively, in North 24 Parganas district. The second phase of the elections, where they ran, took place on April 29.
