West Bengal Minister Dilip Ghosh expressed his approval for the upcoming elections in the Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC) and Bally Municipality, emphasizing the importance of democratic governance in these civic bodies. Ghosh highlighted the necessity of elected representatives in ensuring efficient public services, stating that prolonged administration by state-appointed officials does not serve the people’s interests.
Ghosh commended the decision to conduct elections in municipalities where polls have been overdue for several years, noting the absence of elected representatives leading to inadequate service delivery. He affirmed the government’s commitment to transitioning administration to elected public representatives in alignment with democratic principles.
The electoral process has commenced, with plans to hold elections in numerous municipalities and corporations that have not seen polls for several years. The Howrah Municipal Corporation and Bally Municipality elections are scheduled to take place post-Durga Puja, aiming for completion before December 5, following years of delays since the last elections in 2013.
Responding to queries regarding Mamata Banerjee’s proposed rally concerning a recent tragic incident, Ghosh clarified that there are no restrictions on visiting the area. He emphasized the transparency of actions taken by the government in response to the incident, highlighting the swift arrest of the accused individuals and the ongoing investigations.
