West Bengal’s Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP) chief MLA Humayun Kabir expressed that the BJP’s objective is to dismantle the Trinamool Congress in the state. He noted a potential division within the party due to its current operations under former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s leadership.
Kabir highlighted that 58 out of 80 elected Trinamool Congress legislators, led by expelled member Ritabrata Banerjee, submitted a resolution seeking official recognition as the party’s Assembly block and the principal opposition in the state. The Speaker accepted this resolution on Wednesday.
In a conversation, Kabir emphasized that he had foreseen this split for the past six months, attributing it to alleged mistreatment of party leaders by Mamata Banerjee’s nephew, Abhishek Banerjee. He accused the party of engaging in corrupt practices related to ticket distribution and party positions.
Kabir further stated that the BJP aims to dismantle the Trinamool Congress in West Bengal, with a significant portion already affected post-elections. He claimed that the BJP is executing a secondary plan, with Ritabrata Banerjee aligning with this strategy. Kabir asserted that both Mamata and Ritabrata Banerjee will face consequences.
Regarding the new Trinamool bloc appointing Mamata Banerjee as their advisor, Kabir dismissed the notion, stating that Mamata would not advise those who betrayed her. He criticized Ritabrata Banerjee for disloyalty, highlighting his expulsion from the CPI-M and subsequent privileges in the Trinamool Congress.
Kabir clarified that his party, AJUP, is unlikely to form alliances and will contest elections independently. He also mentioned plans to construct a mosque resembling the Babri Masjid in Murshidabad district, with completion scheduled for 2028. This decision was a factor in Kabir’s expulsion from the Trinamool.
