The Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police announced the arrest of two Bangladeshi nationals linked to the murder of ‘anti-India’ leader Sharif Osman Hadi. The arrested individuals, identified as Rahul alias Faisal Karum Masud and Alamgir Hossain, were apprehended from the India-Bangladesh border area in West Bengal.
According to the West Bengal Police statement, the duo had fled Bangladesh after being involved in serious crimes, including extortion and murder, and had illegally entered India. They were found in the border area of Bangaon, North 24 Parganas district, with intentions of returning to Bangladesh when possible.
Rahul alias Faisal Karim Masud, aged 37 and a resident of Patuakhali, Bangladesh, and Alamgir Hossain, aged 34 and a resident of Dhaka, were intercepted during a raid conducted based on credible information. The preliminary investigation suggests their involvement in the murder of Osman Hadi, a political activist from Bangladesh.
The two suspects had entered Indian territory through Meghalaya and eventually reached Bongaon, West Bengal, aiming to cross back into Bangladesh. They have been remanded to police custody following their production before the court on Sunday, with further investigations ongoing.
