West Bengal Police have initiated disciplinary action against IC Berhampore and taken lawful action against four accused Trinamool Congress (TMC) members for obstructing the election campaign and nomination filing of Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, a Bengal Police official. Tensions escalated in Berhampore, Murshidabad district, during the Congress’s campaign where Adhir Chowdhury faced obstacles from TMC members upon entering ward number 19.

Congress candidate Adhir Chowdhury, accompanied by his workers and supporters, encountered resistance from TMC upon entering the city’s ward number 19. Allegations were made by the senior Congress leader that TMC was deliberately impeding the campaign out of fear of election results, resorting to violence and intimidation tactics. However, a local Trinamool councillor dismissed these claims, labeling Adhir Chowdhury as a troublemaker attempting to disrupt peace by involving outsiders.

The situation escalated with slogans and scuffles between supporters of both parties, prompting police intervention to restore order. Both sides are set to file complaints with the Election Commission following the incident. Adhir Chowdhury, who faced protests earlier, was met with “go back” slogans by TMC members during a recent visit to a nursing home in Berhampore.
