West Indies skipper Shai Hope commended his team’s impressive beginning in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup with a 35-run victory over Scotland at Eden Gardens. He attributed Shimron Hetmyer’s solid 64 runs and Romario Shepherd’s pivotal 5-20 spell, which included a hat-trick, to their success.

Hope emphasized the importance of a good start in tournaments like these, highlighting the team’s performance at Eden Gardens. He lauded Hetmyer’s consistent form, noting his valuable contributions with the bat in recent matches.

The West Indies captain also praised Shepherd’s impact with the ball, describing his performance as surprising and crucial for the team. Shepherd’s ability to take crucial wickets and create pressure on the opposition’s batting lineup was instrumental in their victory.

Scotland captain Richie Berrington acknowledged the disappointment of their defeat but recognized the positives from the match. He pointed out the loss of two key batsmen as the turning point in the game, which shifted the momentum in West Indies’ favor.

Looking ahead, Berrington expressed optimism and stated that the team would carry the positives from this match into their upcoming fixtures, aiming to build on their experience at Eden Gardens.
