The West Indies women’s team has been fined 10% of their match fee for a slow over-rate in the first Women’s T20I against Australia in St. Vincent. The ICC Code of Conduct mandates fines for minimum over-rate offenses, with players fined five percent of their match fee for each over not bowled in time. Captain Hayley Matthews admitted the offense, leading to the imposed sanction without a formal hearing.
Reon King, the match referee, penalized the West Indies team for being two overs short of the target after considering time allowances. Australia secured a 17-run victory in the second match, winning the three-match series with one game remaining. Alana King’s impressive performance contributed to Australia’s success, with her 2-25 bowling figures standing out.
Australia, opting to bat, started strongly with Georgia Voll’s aggressive 39 off 23 balls. Phoebe Litchfield and Ellyse Perry further boosted the innings with a 58-run partnership. Perry’s fluent 42 off 28 deliveries and late contributions from Wareham and Carey pushed Australia to a competitive 164/5 total. The Australian bowlers, led by Kim Garth, maintained control, restricting West Indies effectively.
Despite a slow start, West Indies’ Matthews turned the tables with a counterattacking 56 off 41 balls. However, Alana King’s crucial wickets of Matthews and Taylor shifted momentum in Australia’s favor. Dottin’s unbeaten 39 and a late partnership with Claxton were not enough as West Indies fell short, ending at 147/4. Australia’s all-round performance sealed the series victory.
Both teams will face off in the final T20I before commencing a three-match ODI series in Basseterre.
