A wild elephant wandered into a residential area in Khunti, Jharkhand, and fell into an open well in Dandtoli, causing alarm among locals. The Forest Department successfully rescued the elephant after a two-hour operation. Officials revealed that the elephant, with impaired vision, fell into a local resident’s well and was later guided out by creating a slope with a JCB machine.
After being rescued, the elephant crossed a nearby national highway and headed towards Pokla village. The incident attracted a large crowd of onlookers, leading to some chaos despite the smooth rescue operation. Authorities had to manage the crowd carefully to avoid any further risks to the animal or the public.
The Divisional Forest Officer of Khunti noted that the elephant seemed weak, hungry, and had minor injuries from the fall but did not display aggression. Reports indicated the elephant’s journey through various areas before falling into the well, with videos of the incident and rescue going viral on social media. Forest officials emphasized the importance of maintaining a safe distance from the elephant and assured ongoing efforts to relocate it back to its natural habitat.
