The second season of the Women’s Hockey India League (HIL) provided a significant platform for Indian players to showcase their skills alongside international talent. The tournament not only featured competitive matches but also highlighted the remarkable performances of young Indian players who excelled throughout the season. Following their standout displays in the Women’s HIL, these players have earned spots in the senior Indian women’s national team training camp led by new Chief Coach Sjoerd Marijne. This camp is part of the team’s preparations for upcoming international events, including the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2026 in Hyderabad, Telangana, scheduled for March.
Lathantluangi from Ranchi Royals, a key player in the team’s defensive line during the Women’s HIL, played a crucial role in their success by maintaining a solid defensive record, conceding only seven goals in the tournament. Her exceptional game awareness and calmness under pressure allowed her to not only defend effectively but also initiate attacks from the back, showcasing her distribution skills and offensive contributions.
Bansari Solanki, the goalkeeper for SG Pipers, played a pivotal role in her team’s triumph at the Women’s HIL, particularly in the Final against Shrachi Bengal Tigers. Solanki’s outstanding performance in the shootout, where she made three crucial saves including a penalty stroke stop, was instrumental in SG Pipers’ 3–2 victory and title win. Her consistent displays throughout the season, alongside Argentine goalkeeper Cristina Cosentino, earned her the prestigious ‘Goalkeeper of the Tournament’ Award, recognizing her impact and influence on the team.
Sonam, a forward from JSW Soorma Hockey Club, continued to impress with her attacking prowess and confidence during the Women’s HIL. Despite facing challenges in scoring, Sonam’s resilience and ability to adapt to the senior level were evident throughout the tournament. Her inclusion in the national camp reflects her potential and performance, showcasing her transition from the junior to senior level seamlessly.
Shilpi Dabas, a defender for SG Pipers, delivered a series of strong and composed performances that contributed significantly to her team’s success in the Women’s HIL. Known for her consistency in the National Championships, Dabas carried her form into the league, displaying exceptional composure, positioning, and decision-making skills. Her standout displays were crucial in earning her a well-deserved call-up to the senior national team, marking a significant milestone in her career.
Hina Bano, a 21-year-old midfielder from JSW Soorma Hockey Club, stood out for her composed and disciplined play during the Women’s HIL. With a strong presence in the midfield, Bano showcased her game awareness, work rate, and ball-handling skills under pressure, indicating her readiness for greater responsibilities at the senior level. Her performances highlighted her maturity and potential to excel in higher-level competitions, following her previous involvement with India’s junior women’s national team.
The current senior Indian women’s national coaching camp at SAI Bengaluru is hosting twenty-nine players as they gear up for the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup Qualifier 2026 in Hyderabad, Telangana.
