The Women’s Premier League (WPL) commenced its fourth edition with a grand opening ceremony at the Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The event featured prominent figures like Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Honey Singh, adding glamour to the pre-match festivities.
Harnaaz, the 2021 Miss Universe winner and actress, set the stage with a monologue celebrating women’s accomplishments in India, signaling the start of the evening. Jacqueline then delivered a high-energy performance of her hit movie songs, captivating the audience with her charisma and dance moves.
Rapper-singer Honey Singh took the spotlight with a blend of his latest tracks and classics, surprising everyone by joining MI and RCB captains Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana on stage. Singh’s electrifying performance had the crowd dancing to popular tunes like ‘Millionaire,’ ‘Lungi Dance,’ and ‘Blue Eyes.’
The trio united on stage to conclude the opening ceremony, receiving cheers from the enthusiastic fans. The WPL 2026 will kick off at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai before heading to the Kotmabi Stadium in Vadodara for the knockout matches.
Mumbai Indians, led by Harmanpreet, stand as the most successful team with two titles and are the current champions, while RCB, under Mandhana, clinched the 2024 championship. Delhi Capitals, three-time runners-up, are eager to secure their maiden title in this season.
The inaugural match between MI and RCB commenced at 7:40 pm local time, following the vibrant entertainment extravaganza that marked the beginning of the 2026 season. This edition of WPL is the first to be held in the January-February timeframe.
