A young traffic police constable was discovered dead at his home in Indore, sending shockwaves through the department and the local police colony. The incident took place at the Chauthi Paltan police quarters under the Malharganj Police Station limits in the city. The deceased, identified as Ankit Tomar, was part of the Indore city traffic wing.
Concern arose when Tomar did not show up for work on Saturday and could not be reached, prompting colleagues to investigate. Tomar was found hanging inside his flat after failing to respond to calls from coworkers and acquaintances. Senior officers were informed, leading to the discovery of his unresponsive state.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sumit Kerketta mentioned that Tomar had returned home around 10 p.m. on Friday after finishing his duty. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was called to the scene for examination, although no suicide note was found. Tomar, who was unmarried, handled clerical duties at the office of the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Traffic-East).
Colleagues described Tomar as disciplined and soft-spoken, expressing disbelief at his sudden demise. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination, with authorities awaiting the arrival of Tomar’s family for further legal procedures. Investigators are exploring all possible angles, including personal and professional factors, in the ongoing investigation.
In a separate incident in February, a Head Constable in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch district had died by suicide, leaving behind a note alleging corruption and mental harassment within the police force in the state.
