YSR Congress Party has requested a fair investigation into the killing of party member Manda Salman in Andhra Pradesh’s Palnadu district. The party plans to present a formal complaint to the Director General of Police, Harish Gupta, on Monday. YSRCP leaders will meet with the DGP to discuss the murder of a Dalit activist in Pinnelli village, Gurazala constituency.
The party is seeking an urgent meeting on this matter. In a letter to the State DGP, YSRCP State General Secretary and MLC Lella Appi Reddy mentioned that Salman, who had returned to his village to visit his ailing wife after living elsewhere due to safety concerns, was brutally killed with iron rods. This incident reflects a breakdown of law and order in the State since the TDP-led coalition government took office.
YSRCP leaders expressed concerns that Dalits, especially YSRCP activists, are facing threats without adequate protection under the current government. They intend to press the DGP for a prompt and unbiased investigation into the case. The party demands that those responsible for the crime be identified and punished according to the law.
YSRCP members held protests across Andhra Pradesh at Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statues to condemn Salman’s murder. Following the party president’s call, leaders and SC Cell representatives organized demonstrations in various districts, criticizing the deteriorating constitutional governance in the state. They linked Salman’s killing to the prevailing “Red Book rule” and police involvement, calling for immediate arrests, officer suspensions, and strict actions under the SC/ST Atrocities Act.
