Zanzibar President Hussein Ali Mwinyi is set to visit India from July 17-20 at the invitation of Vice President C P Radhakrishnan. The visit aims to enhance the existing India-Tanzania relations and identify new areas for cooperation. External Affairs Minister Jaishankar will also meet with President Mwinyi during his stay in India.
Accompanied by his wife and a high-level delegation, President Mwinyi will attend the 63rd Convocation Ceremony of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras in Chennai. The Zanzibar campus of IIT Madras, established in October 2023, will mark its second anniversary during this visit. The Ministry of External Affairs anticipates that the visit will invigorate bilateral ties between the two nations.
President Mwinyi expressed appreciation for India’s contributions to Zanzibar’s progress during a meeting with the High Commissioner of India to Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey. The Indian government recently provided essential medical supplies to the Shree Hindu Mandal Hospital in Dar es Salaam, underscoring its commitment to global cooperation and humanitarian aid. This gesture reinforces the enduring friendship between India and Tanzania and their joint efforts to enhance public health services.
