Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza expressed disappointment with his team’s batting display in their seven-wicket defeat against India in the first T20I at Harare Sports Club. Raza highlighted the challenging conditions caused by early moisture that made batting tough during the initial phase of the match. Despite a slow start, Zimbabwe managed to reach 125/7, a target India achieved comfortably with 40 balls to spare.
Raza noted the lack of boundaries early on, which kept the ball new and aided movement off the pitch, making batting even more difficult. He compared the pitch to previous matches against Bangladesh, emphasizing how it became more batsman-friendly as India chased the target. Raza hoped for a better pitch in the next game to reduce the impact of the toss on the outcome.
Acknowledging the defeat, Raza found encouragement in the middle-order partnership between Wessly Madhevere and Tadiwanashe Marumani, who contributed significantly to Zimbabwe’s total. He viewed their performance as a positive sign and called for other players to step up, aiming to post competitive totals in future matches.
