Zimbabwe’s head coach, Justin Sammons, expressed uncertainty regarding the team’s travel arrangements following their exit from the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup with a defeat to South Africa. The team was originally set to return home in phases amidst the ongoing unrest in cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and others in the Middle East.
One team member, Graeme Cremer, residing in Dubai with his family, has been affected by the disturbances in the region. Despite the challenges, the players remained focused on the game, as mentioned by Sammons during a post-match interaction.
Sammons admitted that there is still no clarity on the plans for their journey back home. The situation remains uncertain, with ongoing discussions among stakeholders and the ICC travel and logistics teams to ensure a safe return for the team.
An ICC official mentioned the possibility of using Addis Ababa as a layover destination for match officials returning home, instead of Dubai. However, specific travel arrangements for teams like Zimbabwe are yet to be finalized, with safety being a top priority in light of the current circumstances.
