The Zimbabwe cricket team, led by Richard Ngarava, achieved a historic milestone by securing their largest Test cricket victory, defeating Bangladesh by an innings and 85 runs in a one-off test at Harare Sports Club. Opting to bowl first, Zimbabwe’s dominant performance saw Bangladesh struggling early on, losing eight wickets for just seven runs and eventually getting bowled out for 140 on Day 1. Noteworthy performances included Mominul Haque’s 60 runs and Newman Nyamhuri’s four crucial wickets.
Following a strong display by the pacers, Zimbabwe’s batsmen showcased their prowess, with Innocent Kaia scoring a remarkable century of 140 runs, supported by half-centuries from Craig Ervine, Brian Bennett, and Wessly Madhevere, leading to a substantial first-innings total of 410 runs. Bangladesh’s Taijul Islam stood out with seven wickets.
With a massive first-innings lead of 270, Zimbabwe’s pace quartet of Ngarava, Muzarabani, Evans, and Nyamhuri continued their dominance in the second innings, restricting Bangladesh to 185 runs. This victory marks Zimbabwe’s first consecutive Test wins in over 25 years, following their previous triumph against Afghanistan.
