The Zimbabwe cricket team, led by Sikandar Raza, faced travel delays returning home from India after an impressive ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 performance. Despite losing all three matches in the Super 8 stage, they garnered praise for surpassing expectations by defeating Australia and Sri Lanka earlier. However, their journey back has been hindered by air travel disruptions caused by the Middle East crisis.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) disclosed that the team, safe in India post-tournament, was set to fly via Dubai, now impacted by the regional turmoil. Consequently, the squad awaits alternative travel arrangements to depart for Zimbabwe. ZC mentioned that the International Cricket Council (ICC) is actively collaborating with airlines to secure new travel options, ensuring the team’s safe return.
Amid uncertainties surrounding their travel plans, Zimbabwe’s head coach, Justin Sammons, expressed concerns post their World Cup exit against South Africa. The team, originally planned to return home in batches, faces logistical challenges due to the ongoing unrest in cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and others. Notably, squad member Graeme Cremer, residing in Dubai with family, has been affected by the situation, highlighting the personal toll of the crisis.
