Zimbabwe Cricket has confirmed that Australia will visit for a three-match ODI series in September, marking Australia’s first ODI tour to Zimbabwe in over ten years. The series, set to begin on September 15, will see matches on September 18 and 20, all to be held at Harare Sports Club. This series is a significant part of Zimbabwe’s preparations for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027, which they will co-host with South Africa and Namibia.
ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni expressed excitement about Australia’s visit, emphasizing the importance of such high-quality fixtures for Zimbabwe’s team development. Makoni highlighted the upcoming World Cup as a driving force behind the team’s preparation and growth. He also mentioned the opportunity for Zimbabwean fans to witness top-tier international cricket at home, anticipating strong support at Harare Sports Club.
In recent encounters, Zimbabwe has proven to be a challenging opponent for Australian teams. Australia faced a defeat in the T20 format at this year’s T20 World Cup and suffered a loss to Zimbabwe in a 50-over match in September 2022. Despite these past results, Australia will tour Zimbabwe after playing three T20s against India in the country, with future plans for a series of ODIs in India in January 2027.
