Zimbabwe’s cricket team faced a setback as Milton Shumba was ruled out of the upcoming T20I series against India due to a right hamstring injury. Innocent Kaia has been brought in as his replacement, joining the squad for the series opener at the Harare Sports Club. Shumba’s injury was confirmed through medical scans, forcing him out of the series even before the matches began.

Kaia, who steps in for Shumba, is returning to the T20I format after a considerable gap. His last T20I appearance was in July 2024, coincidentally against India at the same venue where the upcoming series will take place. Zimbabwe made additional changes to their squad by recalling all-rounder Wessly Madhevere and left-arm fast bowler Newman Nyamhuri, while also giving wicketkeeper-batter Tafadzwa Tsiga his first T20I call-up.

The team’s refreshed squad includes Madhevere, who missed the Bangladesh series, and Nyamhuri, who has recovered from his previous injury. Tsiga’s consistent performances in domestic cricket earned him his debut opportunity in international T20 cricket. Fast bowler Tanaka Chivanga, who filled in for Nyamhuri in the Bangladesh series, retains his spot for the India series, while some players like Clive Madande, Tinotenda Maposa, and Tashinga Musekiwa have been left out.

Captain Sikandar Raza will lead Zimbabwe in the three-match series against India, with games scheduled for July 23, 25, and 26 in Harare. Despite a recent T20I series loss to Bangladesh, Zimbabwe enters this contest with confidence following a successful home campaign that included a Test victory and a 2-1 ODI series win. India, on the other hand, aims to reverse their T20I fortunes after a string of losses, including defeats to Ireland and England, as they start their tour in Zimbabwe.
