Plot Summary

Picture tells the story of Tharnath (Naveen D. Padil), a popular theatre comedy actor who loses his wife during childbirth and single-handedly raises his son, Deepu (Nithyaprakash Bantwal). Encouraged by his father to chase a career in films, Deepu heads to the city, where he meets aspiring director Poornesh Kumar (Aravind Bolar) and falls for Nidhi (Amrutha Sudu). When Deepu learns that Nidhi dreams of marrying into a large, close-knit joint family, he hatches an inventive plan: with his father’s help, he rents a big house and enlists a group of theatre artists to pose as his family for a week to win her heart.

Just as the ruse is underway, the story takes an emotional turn when it’s revealed that Tharnath actually comes from a large family of his own, one he was separated from after an old conflict. The second half of the film follows Deepu, Nidhi, and the makeshift “family” as they travel to Tharnath’s ancestral home, setting the stage for a heartfelt reunion that ties the story’s comic and emotional threads together beautifully.

Star Performances

Nithyaprakash Bantwal shines in his role as Deepu, bringing an earnest, wide-eyed charm to the character that makes his journey from village boy to city dreamer thoroughly relatable and endearing.

Amrutha Sudu is delightful as Nidhi, lending grace and warmth to the role and sharing an easy, natural chemistry with Bantwal that keeps their romantic track engaging throughout.

Naveen D. Padil delivers a heartfelt performance as Tharnath, effortlessly balancing comic timing with emotional depth as a father carrying the weight of a hidden past.

Devadas Kapikad brings his trademark comic energy to the film, adding memorable moments of levity that showcase his experience and popularity within Tulu cinema.

Aravind Bolar impresses as the aspiring director Poornesh Kumar, contributing well-timed humour that keeps the city-set portions of the story lively.

Bhojaraj Vamanjoor, Pushparaj Bollur, Prasanna Shetty, and Vajradheer Jain round out a strong ensemble, each bringing their own flavour of comic timing and warmth to the film’s theatre-artists-turned-family plotline, and their camaraderie is one of the film’s biggest strengths.

Together, this ensemble cast is the beating heart of Picture, and their collective chemistry elevates even the film’s quieter stretches.
