Born as Priyakant Sharma on January 13, 1963, in Gwalior, Piyush Mishra was adopted by his childless aunt and renamed. By Class 10, he legally changed his name to Piyush Mishra and began dabbling in theatre at Kala Mandir and Rangshri Little Ballet Troupe.
