What happens when a television heartthrob turns to the dark side? TV sensation Dheeraj Dhoopar, known for his romantic roles in Sasural Simar Ka and Kundali Bhagya, is stepping into Tollywood with a bang! But here’s the twist—he won’t be the hero. Instead, he’s playing the antagonist in the upcoming Tamil film Kalavaram.
Dheeraj Dhoopar’s Tollywood Debut – A Game Changer?
Fans were left stunned when Dheeraj took to Instagram to share the big news. The actor posted a series of behind-the-scenes photos, including a clip of his intense scene from Kalavaram, along with a shot of the film’s clapboard, confirming that he had begun shooting in Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad, on March 3.
His caption read: “There are so many places you haven’t been yet where you are going to belong.” Could this mean Tollywood is his next big career move?
Plot & Cast: What We Know So Far
Kalavaram, directed by Balakrishna Katta, is produced by Shobha Rani under the banner of CLN Media. While the full storyline remains under wraps, Dheeraj’s role as the antagonist adds an intriguing layer to the film’s narrative.
The movie also stars Vijay Kanishka, son of acclaimed director Vikraman, in the lead role. While the film’s release date is still unknown, the buzz around it is already massive.
Dheeraj on Playing a Villain for the First Time
In an exclusive chat with Hyderabad Times, Dheeraj opened up about his decision to step into Tollywood, saying, “Telugu films were always on my radar, and now felt like the right time. I play the villain in the film. I’ve always heard that working in South Indian films is a unique experience, and I’m now witnessing it firsthand.”
But how does he feel about shedding his charming on-screen image for a darker role? “They call actors by their roles—‘villain’ for the bad guys and ‘hero’ for the good guys. It’s like being in a script all the time! It’s new for me.”
A Language Barrier or a New Challenge?
Dheeraj also admitted that working in a different language has been a challenge: “The language barrier did make me feel restricted at times, but I’m eager to immerse myself and improve my skills.”
With the actor stepping out of his comfort zone, Kalavaram could mark a new phase in his career.
