In a move to ensure safe and quality food for passengers, 10 railway stations and the Divisional Railway Manager’s office canteen at Lumding in the Northeast Frontier Railway have received the prestigious “Eat Right Station” certification from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. The certification, valid from March 30, 2026, to March 29, 2028, was granted following a thorough audit of food stalls, catering units, and food handlers at these locations to ensure compliance with food safety standards and hygienic practices. Among the certified stations are Silchar, Karimganj, New Haflong, Diphu, Lumding, Lanka, Chaparmukh, Jagiroad, and Sarupathar.
This recognition underscores the commitment of railway officials, health inspectors, catering units, vendors, and station management teams to uphold high standards of cleanliness and food safety. The certification is part of the “Eat Right India” initiative by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, promoting safe and healthy food practices nationwide. Northeast Frontier Railway, headquartered in Maligaon near Guwahati, operates in the Northeastern states, seven districts of West Bengal, and five districts of north Bihar.
