At least 12 police officers lost their lives, and many others were injured when a suicide bomber drove an explosive-laden vehicle into a police facility in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The attack occurred in Bannu district around 8:55 p.m. local time on Saturday, causing significant damage to the installation, as per official sources speaking to Xinhua news agency.
The assault involved an improvised explosive device carried by a vehicle, followed by drone activity and a subsequent ground assault by militants, sources revealed. Rescue operations, supported by heavy machinery, are ongoing at the site amid concerns that more individuals might still be trapped under the debris, authorities mentioned.
According to the Bomb Disposal Squad, the attack utilized between 1,200 and 1,500 kg of explosives. The responsibility for the bombing was claimed by a militant group known as Ittehad-ul-Mujahideen Pakistan (IMP) through social media channels. Pakistan has experienced a rise in militant attacks in its northwestern areas bordering Afghanistan, with a focus on security forces and law enforcement agencies.
