A 22-year-old passenger, Mayank Lohar, was fatally stabbed in a first-class compartment of a Churchgate-Nallasopara fast local train during an argument over keeping the coach door open in heavy rain. The incident occurred between Andheri and Borivali stations while Lohar, a resident of Virar and a salesman in Andheri, was returning home from work.
The Government Railway Police (GRP) reported that Lohar and the accused were in the same first-class compartment after the train left Churchgate at 10:05 p.m. An argument ensued when Lohar asked the accused to close the coach door due to heavy rain, leading to a violent altercation.
The accused allegedly drew a sharp weapon during the dispute and stabbed Lohar in the abdomen, causing severe injuries. Upon reaching Borivali Station at 11:04 p.m., the accused fled by jumping off the moving train before it stopped, evading capture.
Western Railway activated its emergency response system promptly upon receiving the report. Railway Protection Force (RPF) and GRP personnel reached the coach within three minutes of the train’s arrival, providing immediate assistance to the injured passenger. Lohar was transferred to Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali for treatment but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.
