A 24-year-old woman, Shashi Rahul Chakra, tragically died in Mumbai’s Dombivli East area after coming into contact with a live electric wire on a waterlogged road during heavy rainfall. The incident occurred as Chakra was out buying essentials for her children and stepped into the flooded area where the live wire was lying.
Reports indicate that continuous rain had caused severe waterlogging, leading to the electric wire falling onto the road and electrifying the accumulated rainwater. This resulted in Chakra suffering a fatal electric shock on the spot, leaving the locals in shock and sparking public outrage.
Locals have criticized the power department for negligence, stating that the tragedy could have been prevented if the live wire had been removed promptly or if the electricity supply to the area had been cut off. The victim’s husband, Rahul Chakra, alleged that a police officer demanded a bribe during the hospital formalities, calling for a fair investigation and strict action against the officer.
Tilak Nagar Police Station’s senior inspector, Pankaj Bhalerao, mentioned that the police responded swiftly to the electrocution incident, taking custody of the body and arranging for a post-mortem examination at Shastri Nagar Hospital. Refuting bribery allegations, Bhalerao clarified that the prescribed mortuary storage fee was communicated to the family as they planned to take the body to their native village.
