A 63-year-old woman, Ratna Chakraborty, passed away while attending a hearing in Naihati, West Bengal, as part of the Special Intensive Revision exercise. She had gone to the Barrackpore No. 1 BDO office for the hearing and suffered a heart attack, leading to her death at Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Kalyani.
Ratna Chakraborty, a resident of the Nanna area of Jetia in North 24 Parganas district, was summoned for the hearing due to missing information in the 2002 voter list. Despite submitting necessary documents, she received a notice from the Election Commission to appear for the hearing, where she fell ill and was unable to be saved despite immediate medical attention.
Following the tragic incident, no complaints have been filed, and the police have been informed. The family of the deceased alleged that the anxiety caused by the hearing process might have contributed to her death. Local political leaders, including Trinamool Congress representatives, visited the hospital to offer condolences and support to Ratna Chakraborty’s family.
