The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology announced that the Aadhaar App has exceeded 40 million downloads, showcasing the increasing acceptance of digital identity services. This platform allows users to update Aadhaar details, manage security settings, and access various services conveniently. The app serves as a comprehensive digital hub for multiple Aadhaar-related tasks, such as address updates, mobile number and email modifications, biometric lock/unlock, and e-Aadhaar downloads.
Since its introduction, the Aadhaar App has facilitated over 1.1 million address updates, enabling individuals to maintain accurate information without the need to visit an Aadhaar center. Additionally, nearly 4.9 million mobile number updates have been processed through the app, ensuring that users have up-to-date contact details associated with their Aadhaar. The recent introduction of the email update feature has resulted in approximately 1.25 million email addresses being added or modified via the app, with the government waiving the earlier Rs 75 fee until December 31, 2026.
Furthermore, the app has seen significant utilization of its privacy and security functions, with users utilizing the Biometric Lock/Unlock feature over 19 million times. This feature empowers Aadhaar holders to secure their biometric data promptly, enhancing protection against potential misuse. The Ministry highlighted that the Aadhaar App prioritizes user convenience, privacy, and security, aiming to facilitate identity verification and contribute to the Digital India Mission for a developed nation.
The government disclosed that within the initial days of launching the email update service on the Aadhaar App, more than 250,000 residents updated their email IDs directly through the platform. This streamlined process eliminates the necessity of visiting an Aadhaar center for email ID modifications, as residents can now conveniently perform these updates through the app itself.
