The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) criticized Rahul Gandhi, the Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition, for staging a protest near Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence, labeling it a coordinated effort between the Centre and the Congress. Top Congress leaders, including Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, held a ‘sit-in dharna’ at 7, Lok Kalyan Marg while Minister of State in the PMO, Dr. Jitendra Singh, arrived to engage in discussions regarding alleged paper leaks and police actions against protesting students.
In response, AAP’s Atishi mocked the swift dialogue initiation between the Modi government and Congress, contrasting it with a month-long hunger strike by climate activist Sonam Wangchuk that did not receive a similar response. Atishi highlighted the disparity, emphasizing the immediate engagement with Congress as opposed to other protests.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh also accused the Congress and BJP of colluding to undermine the ongoing protest by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), suggesting that Rahul Gandhi’s involvement was a strategic move to dilute the CJP’s demonstration. Singh insinuated a political motive behind Gandhi’s participation in the protest near the PM’s residence.
