Despite trailing 8-5 initially, Singh fought back to level the score at 8-8 in the first game, eventually winning in the tiebreak.
In a thrilling match, Singh showcased his resilience, overcoming Eleinen’s lead in the second game to emerge victorious with scores of 12-10 and 11-9. Singh, who had previously defeated Eleinen at the El Gouna International, will now face off against Karim Gawad, the 4th-ranked player from Egypt, in the next round for a chance at the semifinals.
Singh expressed his satisfaction with the win, acknowledging the tough competition and the strategic planning that contributed to his success. He credited James Willstrop for devising a winning strategy that helped him navigate challenging situations during the match. Singh also reflected on his earlier victory over Eleinen, highlighting the similarities in the intense gameplay.
In other tournament results, Iker Pajares secured a spot in the quarterfinals of a Gold-level event for the first time by defeating the 6th-seeded Youssef Soliman. Pajares, known for his strong performances in Platinum events, displayed impressive form by defeating Soliman in straight games. The tournament saw some upsets, with Swiss player Nicolas Mueller, a 14-time national champion, being eliminated by Joel Makin, the World No. 5, marking the end of Swiss hopes in the competition.
Former World Champion Karim Gawad also had a successful outing, defeating Auguste Dussourd 2-0 in his match, showcasing his skills and experience on the court.
