Former India cricketer Abhinav Mukund has expressed his apprehension regarding the Punjab Kings’ lack of backup for off-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal in preparation for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. Despite making strategic additions like Vishnu Vinod, Praveen Dubey, and Cooper Connolly to bolster their squad during the mini auction, Mukund highlighted the team’s need to strengthen their spin department.
Mukund commended Punjab Kings for their thoughtful acquisitions but emphasized the importance of addressing the spin depth issue. He pointed out that while the team has signed players like Pravin Dubey and Cooper Connolly to enhance their middle-order flexibility, the absence of a reliable backup for Chahal remains a concern.
Former cricketer Robin Uthappa also lauded the signing of Vishnu Vinod by Punjab Kings, describing him as a valuable addition to the team. Uthappa expressed optimism about Vinod’s potential impact, citing his talent and versatility. Vinod’s presence not only strengthens the middle order but also offers the team additional options, including the ability to contribute as a fast-bowling resource.
