Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee has criticized the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in West Bengal for what he calls “political intimidation at its worst.” Banerjee expressed concern over the detention and police summons of nearly 25 individuals associated with him, alleging they are being coerced to provide false statements against him.
Banerjee highlighted the use of state agencies to target him, emphasizing that the government’s actions amount to severe political intimidation. This development comes after the BJP ended the TMC’s 15-year rule in West Bengal following the May 2026 Assembly elections.
The Trinamool General Secretary accused the Special Task Force (STF) and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police of arbitrarily summoning individuals linked to his office without proper legal procedures. He claimed that these individuals were being pressured to give statements specifically aimed at incriminating him.
Allegations include phone tapping and harassment of family members, with Banerjee vowing not to yield to such tactics. Recent incidents, including legal actions and security threats, have heightened tensions in the state’s political landscape, with the BJP government emphasizing accountability and anti-corruption measures.
