Abhishek Banerjee, General Secretary of Trinamool Congress, raised concerns about the safety of backing his party in the current BJP-led West Bengal government. He highlighted the escalating violence and fatalities in the state post-election, emphasizing the lack of response to calls for justice. Banerjee cited the tragic deaths of two Trinamool workers allegedly attacked by BJP-affiliated individuals.
The families of the deceased workers questioned the consequences of supporting Trinamool Congress under the BJP’s governance, as per Banerjee’s social media post. He criticized the inaction of the police, the silence of the courts, and the celebratory demeanor of BJP leaders amidst the turmoil in West Bengal. Banerjee also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their perceived lack of attention to the state’s situation.
Following the recent West Bengal Assembly election results, Abhishek Banerjee has been relatively less active in politics, mainly resorting to social media statements. Notably, the state government downgraded his security status from ‘Z-plus’ to that of a regular Member of Parliament, removing additional security personnel and special privileges enjoyed during the Trinamool regime.
