Abhishek Banerjee, the Trinamool Congress General Secretary and Lok Sabha member, has requested a delay in meeting with the West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) due to health concerns. He is recovering from an incident on May 30 where he faced harassment while visiting a party worker’s family in Sonarpur. Banerjee’s physical condition remains poor, with pain in his jaw and body soreness, prompting him to postpone his CID appearance.
An insider revealed that Banerjee has pending medical tests and needs more time before facing the CID. He was summoned by the CID to investigate a case involving alleged signature forgery by Trinamool MLAs. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by a DIG has been formed by the CID to look into the matter, with Banerjee’s appearance linked to discrepancies in MLAs’ signatures for key positions in the West Bengal Assembly.
The CID notice to Banerjee came after an incident of heckling and assault in Sonarpur. Despite the summons, Banerjee expressed willingness to cooperate with the investigation under legal guidance. The CID is investigating mismatches in Trinamool Congress legislators’ signatures on a resolution nominating key opposition leaders in the Assembly, following Speaker Rathindra Bose’s request for verified signatures.
