Trinamool Congress leader Abhishek Banerjee has requested an extension from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) to address a notice concerning his property’s valuation and the removal of an unauthorized section from his residence in Bhabanipur. The KMC recently issued this notice and posted it on the wall of his house in Bhabanipur. Banerjee, the Trinamool General Secretary, has penned a letter to the KMC, asking for additional time to deal with the matter.
The deadline set by the KMC for a response is Monday. In the communication sent by his lawyer to the civic body, Banerjee has asked for a 10-day extension, which is typically granted in such situations by the municipality. Last week, the KMC dispatched notices to two of Banerjee’s addresses, namely Kalighat Road and Harish Mukherjee Road, questioning whether proper permissions were obtained for any construction work at these locations.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation has also instructed the demolition of an unauthorized portion of Santiniketan, Banerjee’s residence on Harish Mukherjee Road. Additionally, around 17 properties linked to Abhishek Banerjee are currently under scrutiny. Following a recent meeting at Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Kalighat, Abhishek faced queries from journalists regarding the KMC’s notice. Initially silent, he later responded assertively from his car, urging for specifics on the alleged illegal construction before providing answers. This incident sparked discussions about Banerjee’s demeanor with the media. However, the Trinamool MP from Diamond Harbour has now formally requested an extension to respond.
