Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member, Abhishek Banerjee, has been asked to appear before the CID on June 14 regarding the MLAs’ signature mismatch case. He faced nearly six hours of questioning at the CID headquarters in South Kolkata and was released late Thursday night. Abhishek Banerjee, who is also the nephew of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, was interrogated about discrepancies in the signatures of Trinamool Congress legislators on a crucial resolution.
The CID has summoned Abhishek Banerjee for further questioning on June 14 as he reportedly struggled to provide answers during the previous interrogation. Sources revealed that he couldn’t clarify the whereabouts of the original resolution book or the meeting minutes. Despite being pressed by investigators, he failed to respond to various queries, leading to his upcoming appearance before the CID on Sunday. Following the interrogation, Abhishek Banerjee went to Mamata Banerjee’s residence, but details of their meeting remain undisclosed.
After evading three previous interrogation notices, Abhishek Banerjee finally cooperated with the CID on Thursday. The Calcutta High Court had granted him protection from arrest for 21 days but instructed him to assist the investigating officers. The CID was also authorized to conduct necessary search operations for a fair investigation.
