Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee is set to appear at the West Bengal Police CID headquarters in South Kolkata. He faces allegations of inciting violence and threatening Union Home Minister Amit Shah before the state’s recent Assembly polls. An FIR was filed against Banerjee last month at the Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station, leading to the CID taking over the investigation on June 11.
The CID summoned Banerjee for questioning on June 12, requiring his presence at their headquarters by noon on Tuesday. Over the past two days, he has been extensively questioned by two investigating agencies in connection with separate cases. On June 14, he underwent an eight-and-a-half-hour interrogation by CID officials regarding a signature mismatch case involving Trinamool Congress legislators. The investigation stemmed from discrepancies in documents related to the nomination of Sovandeb Chattopadhyay as the Leader of Opposition.
Furthermore, on June 15, Banerjee faced over 11 hours of questioning by Enforcement Directorate officials at their Salt Lake office. This interrogation was related to a multi-crore cash-for-job case. Banerjee has labeled these prolonged interrogations as part of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s alleged vendetta politics to eliminate opposition in the state. Despite this, he has vowed to cooperate with all investigations while standing firm against any perceived pressure tactics.
