Abhishek Banerjee’s parents, Amit Banerjee and Lata Banerjee, have approached the Calcutta High Court asserting the legality of their residence at 29-C, Harish Chatterjee Street in Kolkata. They have filed a case to challenge the Kolkata Municipal Corporation’s notice, claiming that the house was constructed following all legal requirements. The case is scheduled for a hearing in the vacation bench of the Calcutta High Court next Wednesday.
Recently, multiple notices were sent to various addresses of Abhishek Banerjee by the Kolkata Municipal Corporation. Abhishek addressed the media from his residence on Kalighat Road, emphasizing the need for clarification from the municipality regarding the alleged illegal construction. He expressed his intention to take legal action and questioned the specifics of the notice, demanding clarity on the alleged deviation from approved plans.
In a separate development, Abhishek’s firm, Leaps and Bounds, requested a 10-day extension from the Kolkata Municipal Corporation to provide information about properties under scrutiny. The firm assured full cooperation but sought additional time to compile the necessary details. The Corporation had issued multiple notices concerning properties associated with Abhishek and his firm, located on Kalighat Road and Harish Mukherjee Road in Kolkata.
The Kolkata Municipal Corporation initiated action under Section 401 of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Act, requiring the submission of approved building plans, construction documents, and permits for any additional construction on the properties. Allegations of deviations from approved plans prompted an investigation into the construction activities. While the initial focus was on two properties, subsequent reports indicated that notices were issued for a total of 17 properties, including those registered under Abhishek’s relatives’ names. Abhishek challenged the allegations, insisting on specific identification of the alleged illegal portions before providing a response.
