Abhishek Manu Singhvi and Vem Narender Reddy submitted their candidacy for the Congress party’s Rajya Sabha seats in Telangana. The nominations were filed before the returning officer Upender Reddy at the Telangana Assembly. The process was overseen by legislative affairs minister D. Sridhar Babu.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) officially named Abhishek Singhvi and Narender Reddy as the party’s chosen candidates. Singhvi, a Supreme Court lawyer, is set for another term in Telangana, while Narender Reddy is contesting for the first time. Narender Reddy, an aide to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, was selected over other senior leaders as the second candidate.
Singhvi’s reselection was expected due to his legal expertise and impactful presence in Parliament. The current members, Singhvi and KR Suresh Reddy, are nearing the end of their terms on April 9, prompting the need for elections. The polls are scheduled for March 16, with both candidates likely to be elected unopposed as the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has not declared intentions to participate.
