The Anti-Corruption Bureau’s Special Investigation Team apprehended Sanjay Badaya, a key suspect in the Jal Jeevan Mission corruption scandal, upon his return from Thailand. Badaya, linked to alleged fraudulent practices, was taken into custody at Delhi Airport based on a Lookout Circular. Following his arrest, he was presented before the court, which sanctioned police remand for further inquiry.
Former PHED Minister Mahesh Joshi, another implicated individual, was also brought before the court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody. The case, originating from FIR No. 245/2024, involves purported large-scale corruption within projects associated with the Jal Jeevan Mission. Investigations have exposed the exploitation of forged documents by certain companies to secure government tenders worth nearly Rs 960 crore.
Allegations suggest collusion among the firms, former officials, and private entities to manipulate tender conditions and inflate bid premiums, leading to substantial financial irregularities. The probe has unveiled close ties between the accused, instances of bribery, and undue influence exerted on departmental operations. Notably, 12 individuals, including former minister Mahesh Joshi and retired IAS officer Subodh Agarwal, have been arrested in connection with the case.
