Vijayalakshmi, one of the accused in the Bengaluru daycare abuse case, has been remanded to 14 days of judicial custody by the 29th Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. She was arrested based on video evidence showing her assaulting toddlers. Currently, she is held at the Bengaluru Central Prison.
Another accused in the case has been detained by the HAL Police, with formal arrest procedures underway. Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining absconding accused, as confirmed by the police. The investigation was triggered when a daycare staff member, Sujata, was dismissed, leading to the exposure of the alleged abuse.
The police have confiscated Sujata’s mobile phone to extract data for additional evidence. The investigation is in progress, with authorities analyzing digital evidence and taking statements from witnesses to piece together the events at the daycare center. Karnataka Home Minister Priyank Kharge emphasized the government’s “zero tolerance” stance on such incidents.
A special police team has been established to apprehend the absconding accused seen in the disturbing videos. Several staff members have been interrogated, including three who have been instructed to cooperate further. Statements from parents of children attending the daycare center have also been recorded as part of the evidence collection process.
Kharge stressed the importance of stringent background checks for daycare staff before employment. The incident came to light through distressing videos showing toddlers being abused at the Society General Baby Care Centre. The accused individuals are identified as Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Bhavani, Sindhu, and Bindu.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh labeled the incident as “serious” and “heinous.” A Special Investigation Team has been formed to investigate the case thoroughly. The FIR, filed at HAL Police Station, cites relevant sections of the law based on a complaint by a local resident, Tilakesh Kumar.
