A wanted accused, Dharmendra Singh alias Dhamo Barad, sustained a gunshot wound to his left leg during a Crime Branch arrest operation in Ahmedabad. Singh, wanted in connection with an attempted murder case, has a criminal history involving serious offenses in multiple police stations in the city. The operation, based on specific intelligence, took place at a hotel within Sola Police Station’s jurisdiction where Singh was found alone.
Officers detained Singh and were transporting him when he attempted to seize a police inspector’s pistol, leading to a struggle. Inspector Mehul Chauhan recounted that as Singh tried to grab the weapon, a round was fired in self-defense, injuring Singh. The operation was in response to an attempted murder FIR against Singh, who was already wanted in the case and had previous involvements in criminal activities. Singh, with a history of criminal cases, was taken to Sola Civil Hospital for treatment.
Police confirmed that no serious injuries occurred to the personnel during the operation, although the inspector had minor swelling on his hand. Singh’s criminal record spans various police stations in Ahmedabad, including cases related to violent offenses, extortion, and arms violations. Senior officers will determine the next legal steps following the incident.
