Actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has taken an early lead in Tamil Nadu’s Assembly election results, surpassing the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in initial counting trends. TVK is currently ahead in approximately 80 Assembly constituencies, while the ruling DMK, led by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, is trailing with leads in 54 seats.
The National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which includes the AIADMK and the BJP, is behind with leads in 44 constituencies, signaling a notable shift in the state’s political landscape. TVK has managed to outpace the DMK in successive rounds of counting, with a lead in 75 seats compared to DMK’s 66 at one point, showcasing the party’s growing influence.
Key constituencies are witnessing intense contests involving prominent leaders. AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami is leading from the Edappadi Assembly constituency, while Chief Minister Stalin has secured a lead in Kolathur after initially trailing. Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam is also leading from the Bodinayakkanur constituency in the southern region.
The early trends indicate that TVK’s debut in the election has disrupted the established dominance of major Dravidian parties, establishing itself as a significant player in various regions. While these leads are based on initial counting rounds and postal ballots, they suggest a potential shift in voter preferences, setting the stage for a potentially historic electoral outcome in Tamil Nadu.
