Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay has clinched a significant win in Tiruchy East, securing over 26,000 votes for his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The recent elections in Tamil Nadu saw a historic debut victory for TVK, reshaping the state’s political landscape. The polling for all 234 constituencies took place on April 23, with the results announced on Monday.
In a surprising turn of events, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin lost his Kolathur seat to TVK’s V.S. Babu by a margin of 9,192 votes, marking a notable shift in the political scenario. Despite this setback, key DMK members like Udhayanidhi Stalin and V. Senthil Balaji managed to retain their respective constituencies. The election witnessed a strong performance by TVK candidates across various regions, showcasing effective organization and voter support.
Noteworthy victories for TVK included Adhav Arjuna in Villivakkam, Thennarasu in Sriperumbudur, and Prabhu in Karaikudi. The party’s success extended to Royapuram, where Vijay Dhamu, an auto driver, defeated former minister D. Jayakumar. Additionally, TVK secured wins in Mylapore and Radhapuram, unseating prominent leaders in these constituencies.
Other election outcomes included DMK’s Raghupathi winning in Tirumayam and minister Sekar Babu retaining Chennai Harbour. MMK’s Jawahirullah emerged victorious in Nagapattinam. TVK leaders hailed the election results as a “new revolution” in Tamil Nadu, alleging attempts to disrupt Vijay’s campaign. Actor Sivakarthikeyan praised Vijay for his impactful electoral debut.
Congress leader Girish Chodankar mentioned submitting a report on the results to the party high command, awaiting further directives from Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge. With heightened security measures at Vijay’s Chennai residence, his growing political influence is evident, signaling a new era in Tamil Nadu’s politics under his leadership.
