Actress Anupria Goenka is set to attend the Cannes Film Festival 2026 with her film ‘Bombay Stories’, where she portrays a sex worker character. Directed by Rahhat Shah Kazmi, the film will be featured at the prestigious Marche du Film (Cannes Film Market). Based on Saadat Hasan Manto’s ‘Hatak’, the movie marks Anupria’s debut in independent cinema and also stars Mouni Roy and Sushmiita Singh.
Anupria shared her thoughts on the film, expressing her excitement about playing a character created by Manto. The character, Saugandhi, navigates societal scrutiny while seeking love and respect beyond her profession as a sex worker. Anupria found a personal connection to Saugandhi, exploring various aspects of womanhood through the role.
Discussing the perception of sex work, Anupria emphasized the importance of agency and choice in such professions. She highlighted the need to prevent coercion and dehumanization in the industry, advocating for the rights and dignity of sex workers. Through ‘Bombay Stories’, the team aims to raise awareness about the discrimination faced by sex workers and reflect the societal realities surrounding their profession.
