Actress Anupria Goenka debuted at the Cannes Film Festival red carpet, showcasing the theme of her outfit inspired by her film ‘Bombay Stories’. The film, based on Saadat Hasan Manto’s story ‘Hatak’, features Anupria as a sex worker, aligning her red carpet appearance with the film’s powerful message.
Anupria used the global platform of Cannes to advocate for “My Body, My Choice,” a cause close to her heart. Her Indo-Western fusion outfit at Cannes combined ajrakh embroidery with a sari-inspired design, symbolizing contrasting societal perceptions of women.
The ensemble, predominantly white with red ajrakh detailing, conveyed the purity expected of women alongside societal judgments. Anupria emphasized that a woman’s position is defined by mentality, not attire, shedding light on the realities faced by sex workers through her work on ‘Bombay Stories’.
