Actress Puja Banerjee, known for her work in television, recently addressed the issue of youth migration in West Bengal ahead of the state’s phase 1 polling. Taking to Instagram, she highlighted the challenges faced by the state’s youth due to the lack of supportive industries, leading to a significant outflow of young people seeking better opportunities elsewhere.
Banerjee emphasized that the exodus of Bengal’s youth is not a matter of choice but a result of compulsion. She pointed out the decline in capital formation from 6.7% to below 3%, underscoring the impact on job creation and industrial growth in the region. The actress expressed concerns about the growing trend of talented individuals leaving the state in search of better prospects in other cities.
Reflecting on the historical significance of West Bengal as the birthplace of renowned figures like Ravindranath Tagore and Subhash Chandra Bose, Banerjee lamented the lack of job opportunities matching the increasing number of graduates in the state. She stressed the need to create a conducive environment for dreams to flourish locally, rather than forcing the younger generation to seek opportunities elsewhere.
With the West Bengal assembly elections scheduled on April 23 and April 29, 2026, to elect all 294 members of the Legislative Assembly, the actress’s remarks shed light on the socio-economic challenges faced by the state’s youth amid the upcoming political developments.
